RELICT RADIATION

In the series of works by Anatoly Gankevich "Relic Radiation", printed collages consist of photographs of satellite fragments of the Ukrainian land from Google Maps. The project is based on a computer collage, which is assembled according to the principle of a Florentine mosaic, where textures, patterns and colors are combined. A computer simulation of the Florentine mosaic is at the heart of the project.

The textures of colored marble and other minerals used in the Florentine technology, they resemble the textures of the landscapes of the Ukrainian land, which were taken from space. In this case, the stone pattern is replaced by the digital texture of satellite photo landscapes of the territory of Ukraine.The intention in the paintings is to reproduce scenes from the everyday life of our favorite dinosaurs. We love them because many of them are our close ancestors and relatives. Images in the Florentine mosaics are modern reality. The circumstances of spiritual stagnation symbolize our reality, where We live next to dinosaurs in our daily life.

The Ukrainian folk motif is taken as the basis of all images. We have rethought folklore themes and pictorial languages   of the past.

Ukrainian folk painting almost does not differ from European. This is kitsch and naive, which embody the simplest, real, folk art of any European country. It can be said that it is an art that has grown on earth. The Florentine mosaic is stylistically ideal for Ukrainian folklore, it illuminates the cultural connection of European peoples and gives the images a little Italian elegance.

Ukrainian naive, Florentine mosaic, like images of old ideas, coexist with technology and super modern space HI-TECH. They point to the rapidly increasing distance, both on Google Maps (zoom out), and the distance of contradictions between the old and the new generation. They point to the difference between the spiritual and technical development of society.This important problem of the spiritual ecology of modern European society is trying to involve the project "Relic Radiation".

“This is a voice directed against the degradation of humanity, this is an attempt to resist the circumstances of the time and human misunderstanding. The project is dedicated to the ecology of the relationship between the old and the young generation, and to my grandson Mark, who is passionate about dinosaurs. These ancient beings that don't really exist. It was he who, with his knowledge of paleontology, led me to the idea of   scenes from the life of dinosaurs, which organically fit into Ukrainian landscapes and coexist nicely with swans and other inhabitants of the Ukrainian land,” the artist characterizes the philosophy of his project “Relic Radiation” in this way.
